5th and 6th Grade French
5th and 6th Grade students will begin the daily program for full year French. During these 2 years we will cover the content equivalent to Level 1 High School French. We are able to move at a slower pace, allowing for additional time on challenging content as needed. Target areas include:
Reading comprehension, written accuracy, speaking proficiency, listening comprehension, and cultural awareness. Students use the Discovering French Nouveau textbook which includes on-line access with personal student tutorial. We are fortunate to offer diverse instruction to language students with the use of a weekly computer lab and Smart Board activities as well.
7th and 8th Grade French
7th and 8th Grade students progress into the 2nd year study of French. Students move into the Level 2 Discovering French Nouveau-Blanc textbook. This daily study of the language becomes much more rigorous in the areas of reading comprehension, written accuracy, speaking proficiency and listening comprehension. Students partake in technology projects including written proficiency in the target language and recording their voices, enhancing their speaking proficiency as well.
Students will complete assessments regularly that include all 4 areas of critical language acquisition. Final exams will be included as the end of the year assessment tool.
7th and 8th Grade Spanish
7th and 8th Grade students focus on the level 2 High School study of Spanish. Students use the Avancemos 2 textbook which offers on-line access and personal student tutorials. The daily study of the language becomes much more vigorous at this level in the areas of reading proficiency, written accuracy, speaking proficiency, and listening comprehension. Students are exposed to language study in the computer lab every week. Spanish instruction is presented with Smart Board activities to vary student instruction. Students will complete technology projects that enhance written accuracy and will record their voices to aid in speaking proficiency. Students will complete regular assessments that include all 4 areas of critical language acquisition. End of the year assessment will be completed with a final exam.
