Math
In the third grade program of the Macmillan McGraw-Hill series, Illinois Math Connects, students focus on:
- Number and Operations and Algebra: Multiply and divide whole numbers and relate multiplication and division.
- Number and Operations: Understand fractions and equivalent fractions.
- Geometry: Describe and analyze properties of two-dimensional figures.
Lessons include a balanced approach to mathematics by:
- Investigating concepts and building conceptual understanding
- Developing, reinforcing, and mastering computational and procedural skills
- Applying mathematics to problem-solving situations

Language Arts
The Houghton Mifflin Reading series, is broken down into three main sections: Reading, Word Work, and Writing and Language.
In third grade the Reading section focuses on phonics/decoding skills, comprehension skills/strategies, and reading fluency. Word Work consists of spelling and vocabulary. Writing and Language is centered on grammar, usage, and mechanics.

In Writing and Language students will focus on prewriting strategies, the writing process, developing a paragraph using proper form, using appropriate capitalization and punctuation, learning about different parts of speech and understanding the basic revision process. The students will compose a narrative, expository and persuasive writing.

Science
In third grade we use the Scott Foresman Science series. Students will learn about topics such as: animals and their environments, the Earth and the Solar System, matter and how it changes, and the body's systems. Each interactive experiment activity follows the scientific method procedure. Reading and Math are integrated throughout the text.
Social Studies

Students will learn all about communities, people in communities, history of communities, communities at work, and community government.
