Religion:
First grade students embrace the understanding that God is our good father and has sent his son as our savior. Also, we learn that Jesus is our good friend and the ways he shows us his great love. Students practice the meaning of prayer inside and outside of our holy place, the Church.
Math:
In first grade we practice mathematical skills in addition/subtraction strategies, organizing data, time, identifying coins, geometric figures, place value and fractional parts. These skills are mastered through using manipulatives and real-world examples.
Language Arts:
On a daily basis, the language arts program includes the following attributes: phonics, sight words, spelling and meaning, reading and comprehension strategies, guided reading, writing, and center work.
Science:
Throughout the first grade school year, students study the following areas: Life science-plants and animal studies, Physical science-force and motion, Earth science-soil, weather, relationship between sun moon and earth, Human body-senses and how to stay healthy. We experience the beauty of science by building models, observing experiments, and understanding the different properties found in God's universe.
Social Studies:
Our academic focus in social studies is communities, land and water, resources, our country's leaders, goods and services, and using maps.
