Religious Education - How FCFF Works

How FCFF.jpg

Holy Trinity's Religious Education program uses Family Centered Faith Formation (FCFF). It's the oldest and newest idea in Catholic education.

How our program works...

Monthly Sessions - Each family chooses one day of each month to attend the monthly session (Monday or Wednesday), held September-May. We also attend Mass every week (Saturday evening or Sunday) to honor God all year long.

All age groups cover the same faith concepts, so families can share their understanding during their weekly home study. A binder of weekly assignments is provided at the beginning of the year.

  • 1st–5th grade students meet with their parents.
  • 6th-8th grade students meet in a traditional classroom setting with their peers, while their parents gather in a different area for an adult level formation of the topic their children are studying.
  • K-1st grade students may participate in “Saints in Training,” which is an optional class for parents who feel their children would benefit from a more basic explanation of the topic each month. 2nd grade students may also attend this class. If parents do not have other children in the program, they will participate in this class. Parents also have the option to leave the room for a portion of the class to meet with a facilitator and discuss ways to communicate the faith at home.
  • For siblings 0-5 year old, Trinity Tots playgroup is available at no additional cost during all sessions.

Religious Education "Summer Challenge" - During the summer, we include activities in each bulletin. In September, we will collect all completed activities. Prizes are given to the families completing the most "Summer Challenge" activities.

Totus Tuus Summer Camp - Totus Tuus is a fun and energetic Catholic youth program taught by seminarians and college students throughout the Diocese of Joliet.

"God things" happen when families work together

Faith becomes a family experience. Children turn to their parents to guide them. Parents learn new ways to nurture their family’s faith.

The whole family learns about our Catholic Traditions and rich spiritual heritage while celebrating their faith together, the way our Lord intended.

You’ll meet and make friends with other parish families.

Your commitment...

At least one adult (preferably parent or guardian) attends each monthly session.

Families promise to attend Mass every weekend and Holy Day, and receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation regularly.

Together, families complete their supplemental take-home materials (30-60 min).

Families perform six hours of “Service for God” each year. We offer several service projects for families to choose from.

Parents attend an orientation meeting before sessions begin.

*Additional workshops, retreats, and parent meetings will be necessary for 2nd grade students preparation for the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion and for 6th, 7th & 8th grade students in preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation.
